Does Dropbox support connecting through a proxy server?
If you are on a corporate network, there's a good chance you connect to the Internet using a proxy server. Thankfully, Dropbox works just fine through HTTP(S) proxy servers.
On Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Dropbox uses the proxy settings from your operating system's Internet configuration settings by default. You can change these settings as follows:
Using System Settings
- For Windows Vista or Windows 7, your Internet configuration settings can be found by going to your Control Panel from the Start menu. For Windows 8, these settings can be found by typing Control Panel at the Start screen and clicking on it.
- Select Network and Internet Connections and click on Internet Options. Alternatively, you can also access Internet Options from Internet Explorer's Tools menu. Press the alt key for the Internet Explorer 8+ menu.
- Proxy settings can be set through LAN Settings from the Connections tab.

On Windows XP
Dropbox uses the proxy settings from your operating system's Internet configuration settings by default. You can change these settings as follows:
Using System Settings
- Click on the Start menu, and click Control Panel.
- Select Network and Internet Connections.
- Click on Internet Options. Alternatively, you can also access Internet Options from Internet Explorer's Tools menu.
- Proxy settings can be set by clicking on LAN Settings from the Connections tab.

On Mac OS X
Dropbox uses the proxy settings from your operating system's Internet configuration settings by default. You can change these settings as follows:
Using System Settings
- Choose the Apple menu, then click System Preferences, and click Network.
- Choose the network service you use from the list on the left hand side of the window. If you use an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet, for example, choose Ethernet from the list.
- Click on the Advanced button.
- Select the Proxies tab.
- Manually enter your proxy information by selecting Web Proxy and Secure Web Proxy protocols from the list.
Using Dropbox Preferences
Alternatively, you can set Proxy settings for Dropbox only by manually entering proxy settings in the Dropbox preferences panel:

On Linux.

Using Dropbox Preferences
Set proxy settings for Dropbox by manually entering them in the Dropbox preferences panel:
- Right-click on the Dropbox icon in the system tray.
The Dropbox icon in the system tray - Select Preferences from the Dropbox menu.
- Click on the Network tab.
- Fill in your proxy settings under the section appropriately labeled Proxy Settings.
For our advanced users
Dropbox will adhere to your system's http_proxy environment variable when connecting to the internet on all distributions that support it.
If Dropbox is still having trouble connecting and you don't know if you use a proxy server or not, try selecting No proxy.
